Marcus Rashford a major doubt for Man Utd clash with Liverpool reveals Solskjaer after striker forced off vs Atalanta

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER could not guarantee Marcus Rashford will be fit to face Liverpool after the England star limped off against Atalanta.

Rashford, 23, started against the Italians – his first since the Europa League final defeat to Villareal in May.

Marcus Rashford has scored two goals in two games since returning from injury

A shoulder injury has kept him out of action but he has returned with a bang – scoring two goals in two games.

He equalised against Leicester on Saturday before the Foxes scored twice more and his goal against Atlanta set the 3-2 comeback in motion.

But after suffering a dead leg he was hauled off after an hour, and Solskjaer could not confirm his availability for Sunday’s clash.

Solskajer told ManUtd.com: “I don’t know. I hope so and I think so.

“It was a dead leg and sometimes it can take longer than what you want. But if we treat it well, he should be okay.”

“He has worked really hard.

“His injury, or the surgery, meant he couldn’t train with contact but he has been training physically and now he is physically very robust.

“Now it is about getting football form back. And it is coming.

“Marcus is a natural talent but he also wants to work on his game and he has already worked a lot individually without contact allowed.

“It showed [against Atalanta] because he was really composed and took his goal really well.”

His absence against Liverpool could be a big blow, particularly with Anthony Martial also a doubt – the Frenchman is struggling with an injury he picked up on international duty.

Jadon Sancho could return to the starting line-up if Rashford is not deemed fit, with Edinson Cavani – the man who replaced him on Wednesday – another option.

Solskjaer has had to contend with a number of injury issues already this season; Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Amad Diallo have all missed games through injury.
