Mason Mount warned against ‘weird move’ to Man Utd by former Premier League star as he names ideal transfer

MASON MOUNT has been warned against making a “weird move” to Manchester United by a former Premier League star.

The Chelsea midfielder has been strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer – with the Reds trying to knock down Chelsea’s £70million asking price.

Mason Mount has been warned against joining Manchester United

Mount is expected to leave the Blues after 18 years after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

With the 24-year-old entering the final year of his current deal, Chelsea are now set to part ways with the midfielder.

United are understood to be the frontrunners to land his signature as talks continue over a deal.

However, former Chelsea full-back Glen Johnson believes Mount would be better off joining Liverpool instead.

Speaking to Betfred, he explained: “I am shocked that it looks as if Mason’s heading to Old Trafford.

“I don’t believe that Manchester United needs Mason and I believe that it’s a weird move for the player as well. Manchester United is obviously a huge club, but they’re not nailed on to win anything.

“I believe that Chelsea need to keep him and it would be strange to see them allow Mason to make the move to Manchester United.

“If he was to leave Chelsea for another Premier League club, then I believe Liverpool would have suited him better.”

Liverpool have been linked with Mount in recent weeks but are thought to have admitted defeat in the race to sign him.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are reportedly now eyeing a deal to sign James Ward-Prowse from relegated Southampton as they continue their midfield overhaul.

Mount endured a stop-start 2022/23 season due to injuries, with a pelvis issue sidelining him for much of the second half of the campaign.

Despite that, United would welcome a player with 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 Chelsea appearances if they can complete the signing.
