Mikel Arteta will land £5m pay-out if Arsenal sack him as Gunners manager’s wages broken down

MIKEL ARTETA will pocket a cool £5million if he is sacked by Arsenal, according to reports.

The Spaniard has relieved some of the pressure he was under earlier this season and it has now emerged the Gunners would face a hefty pay-out if they were to axe him now.

Arsenal would have to pay Mikel Arteta a £5m severance fee if they were to sack the Spaniard now

Arteta, 39, earns £5m-a-year at the Emirates, according to Goal.

He signed a three-and-a-half-year deal in December 2019 when he replaced Unai Emery.

That will see him earn around £7m if he remains in his job for the full contract term – having pocketed nearly £10m already.

SunSport revealed this week Manchester United would need to cough up £7.5m to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – which is a year’s wages for the Norwegian.

It is common for a gaffer to receive 12 months pay upon being relieved of their duties – unless specific contract clauses dictate otherwise.

And this would see Arteta pick up a cool £5m if he gets the boot.

There is no suggestion the former Gunners and Everton midfielder is going to be sacked.

He has managed to stop the rot and transform the team’s fortunes after an awful start to the campaign.

After being rooted to the bottom of the table, they have climbed to tenth having gone six Premier League games unbeaten – winning four of them.

Chelsea have paid out more than £75m in managerial pay-outs

The North Londoners have also beaten AFC Wimbledon and Leeds to reach the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

On Thursday, SunSport explored the biggest managerial pay-outs ever with Arteta’s potential severance fee not even coming in the top 10.

And one London club appears FIVE TIMES in the list – costly for their billionaire Russian oligarch.
