Neville says Man Utd MUST sort keeper situation while Souness claims ‘matter of time’ before Henderson replaces De Gea

GARY NEVILLE says Manchester United MUST sort out their goalkeeper situation while Graeme Souness claims it’s only a ‘matter of time’ before Dean Henderson replaces David De Gea.

The Red Devils slipped further behind leaders Man City yesterday after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom.

Both captain Harry Maguire and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted afterwards they were still in the title chase, despite the gap between the neighbours now being seven points.

Fortunately for De Gea the latest setback did not include any errors from him this time, although he is still under fire for his display in last week’s 3-3 draw with Everton.

Many are calling for England international Dean Henderson to be promoted from being the Spaniard’s back-up to No.1.

And former United full-back Neville says Solskjaer ‘needs to deal’ with the goalkeeping situation ASAP – and he said that if it was Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola in charge a new stopper would already have been signed.

He told the Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel:  “There’s a real problem brewing for Ole in the next few months. He has Henderson issues building behind De Gea.

“There comes a point where (De Gea) is making mistakes too regularly. Man United need to win a title, no team can win a title without a great goalkeeper.

David de Gea was a great goalkeeper, but it’s not just the mistakes he’s making – the saves are less. He’s not the same level he has been.”

Meanwhile, Nevile’s fellow Sky Sports pundit Souness believes sooner or later Solskjaer will run out of patience with the error-prone De Gea.

He said: “I’m a fan of Dean Henderson. It’s only a matter of time.

“You look at Sheffield United’s plight, he is the single biggest reason why they are where they are.

“David de Gea is making mistakes, a manager can only tolerate that for so long. If the goalkeeper is making mistakes, it impacts the rest of the team.”
