Newcastle Closing In on £28m Deal for Chelsea Starlet Lewis Hall

Introduction

Newcastle United is on the verge of securing the signature of Chelsea's promising young left-back, Lewis Hall, in a deal worth £28 million. Despite recently signing a new six-year contract with the Blues, Chelsea has decided to cash in on the 18-year-old following their significant spending on midfielders Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this week.

Newcastle's Fourth Summer Signing

Hall, who is a lifelong Newcastle fan, is expected to become the fourth summer signing for the Magpies after both clubs reached an agreement on the transfer. Newcastle's summer spending, largely financed by Saudi funding, will now reach a total of £157 million.

Potential Superstar for the Next Decade

Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe, despite expressing concerns over Financial Fair Play, believes that Hall has the potential to be a future superstar. The club may initially secure the youngster on loan with an obligation to make the transfer permanent next year.

Chelsea's Financial Balancing Act

Chelsea rejected previous offers from Newcastle for Hall but is now keen to balance their books following a summer spending spree totaling around £335 million. With players such as Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, and Ian Maatsen ahead of him in the pecking order, Hall's opportunities at Stamford Bridge have been limited.

Joined by Other New Signings

If the deal goes through, Hall will join the likes of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento, who have also made moves to St James' Park this summer. The club's spending spree, which has been offset in part by the departure of Allan Saint-Maximin to Al-Ahli for £30 million, has already surpassed £125 million.

Chelsea's Potential Swap Deal

In other transfer news, Chelsea is considering a swap deal that would involve English anchorman Trevoh Chalobah moving to Nottingham Forest in exchange for winger Brennan Johnson. Chelsea was left disappointed after their primary target for a winger position, Michael Olise, signed a new contract with Crystal Palace. However, the potential deal with Nottingham Forest could face a hurdle, as Chalobah is seeking a move to a "higher-level club".
