Nottingham Forest vs Reading postponed in Championship due to overnight rain leaving waterlogged pitch at City Ground

NOTTINGHAM FOREST’S game with Reading on Saturday has been postponed after torrential rain in the East Midlands.

A lunchtime pitch inspection at the City Ground deemed the surface unplayable for the 3pm kick-off.

The City Ground, pictured here on a different day, was pounded with rain on Friday night and Saturday morning

Downpours overnight in large parts of the country continued into the morning in Nottingham and the decision was made to postpone the game.

The Met Office was forced to issue weather warnings right across the South-West, Wales and Northern areas due to heavy rain.

Travelling fans were unhappy that it was only two-and-a-half hours before kick-off that the game was officially postponed.

It follows the cancellation of Lincoln versus Bolton and Doncaster’s trip to Tranmere in League One.

In League Two, Macclesfield against Bradford was postponed along with Grimbsy versus Cheltenham and Forest Green versus Crewe.

Nottingham Forest were looking to get back to winning ways against the Royals having suffered consecutive defeats in the past week.

Contrastingly, Reading are on a high under new boss Mark Bowen after beating Preston and drawing at Queens Park Rangers.

They sat 20th in the Championship table before Saturday’s games with Forest eighth.

Details on the rearranged fixture will be released in due course.
