Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims it’s ‘impossible’ for teams to emulate Man Utd’s 99 treble winners as Liverpool lose out

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER believes it is an impossible dream for teams to try and emulate Manchester United’s treble triumph of 1999.

Liverpool’s hopes were dashed on Tuesday night when they lost 2-0 in the FA Cup fifth round against Chelsea.

United boss Solskjaer said: “The Treble was a fantastic achievement.

“We hope we’re going do it again but it’s a difficult task and more or less impossible.

“There are so many good teams around.

“It has changed domestically, it was either us or Arsenal in ’99 and now there’s more of us.”

Liverpool could end up with just one trophy – albeit the one they have waited 30 years for.

While the Premier League is almost in the bag they have a tough task in the Champions League.

They lost 1-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid.

It is true that the FA Cup will have been last on their list of priorities out of the three, but Solskjaer believes the competition is still special.

They famously beat Arsenal in extra-time of their semi-final on route to victory in the final over Newcastle.

Solskjaer said: “Well, for me it was a fantastic final to play in in 99 and it’s always been the last game of the season, a spectacle, you can never ever underrate the FA Cup.”

Solskjaer takes his team to Derby tomorrow night for an FA Cup fifth round tie.
