Paul Pogba gives Man Utd stars a rousing team-talk before extra-time vs Villarreal… but cannot inspire victory

PAUL POGBA delivered a passionate team-talk to his Manchester United team-mates after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were tied 1-1 at 90 minutes against Villarreal.

It brought back memories of a rousing speech the midfielder delivered to his France colleagues before the 2018 World Cup final against Croatia.

But ultimately it fell on deaf ears – United went on to LOSE in a penalty shootout, astonishingly with a scoreline of 11-10.

Pogba took centre stage on the sidelines as the two teams could not be separated after 90 minutes in the Europa League final.

He was seen urging his colleagues to push on into extra-time in the hope of finding that precious winner.

United had fallen behind to a 29th-minute goal from Gerard Moreno, but equalised when red-hot frontman Edinson Cavani netted on 55 minutes.

There was a brief wait while VAR checked the goal – with United boss Solskjaer shrugging his shoulders until the goal was given.

But neither side could force a second goal sending the game into extra-time.

In 2018 Pogba was videoed giving an impassioned speech to his French teammates before their date with destiny against Croatia.

And that worked a treat, as Les Bleus triumphed 4-2.

In that, Pogba reminded the players that the ‘whole of France was watching’ and urged them to ‘make history’.

He wanted to see his mates ‘go onto the pitch like warriors’ and secure the silverware.

But after another 30 minutes of play United failed to find that elusive second goal, and the game went to penalties.

And it was heartbreak for the Red Devils as David De Gea missed the only spot-kick as Villarreal won 11-10 on spot-kicks.
