Mixed bag for Gunners
Arsenal's Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest resulted in a 2-1 win, but not without some concerns. While Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka secured the goals for the Gunners, it was a nervy finish after Taiwo Awoniyi's late strike. The performance of debutants Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber drew attention and criticism.
Piers Morgan unimpressed
Arsenal super fan Piers Morgan took to Twitter to express his disappointment with Havertz's contribution to the game. Morgan questioned the lack of desire and intensity displayed by Arsenal in the second half, as well as his understanding of what Havertz brings to the team. Despite playing the full 90 minutes, the German failed to make a significant impact for the hosts.
Struggles on the pitch
Manager Mikel Arteta attempted to involve Havertz more by positioning him as a striker. However, he could only manage an xG (expected goals) of 0.05 from his two blocked shots. Havertz also lost possession ten times and committed two fouls, leaving much to be desired from the high-profile signing. Arsenal fans will be hoping for a marked improvement in his future performances.
