Premier League in talks for Chelsea to face Liverpool at Anfield and Tottenham to play away amid fixture chaos

THE Premier League are in talks to move Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool next weekend to Anfield, according to reports.

And Tottenham could also play Leicester at the King Power Stadium amid the fixture chaos.

Chelsea were due to host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge next Sunday

The Queen’s state funeral will be held in London on September 19

The Queen’s death on Thursday led to Premier League, EFL and all FA games being postponed this weekend.

And there is still negotiations ongoing trying to work out what to do next week for the final round of top-flight matches before the international break.

The state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday, September 19 meaning thousands of people are expected to flock to the capital and police officers needed at short notice.

Three matches are scheduled to be in London on Saturday and Sunday.

Tottenham host Leicester at 5.30pm on Saturday, the day before Brentford vs Arsenal and Chelsea take on Liverpool in the standout tie of the weekend.

And according to The Athletic, there are discussions ongoing about where to play the matches – if at all – against the backdrop of one of the biggest police operations in British history.

One suggestion is to switch the location so the away teams play at home instead – with Chelsea and Spurs travelling to Liverpool and Leicester instead while there would be no point in moving Brentford’s game across London to Arsenal.

However, this is thought to be unpopular because trying to arrange a home match including tickets and staffing in one week is hugely complicated.

And if no solution is found, it could see the London matches postponed, which would then mean trying to find another time to slot the rearranged matches into the already-stacked football calendar, especially with the winter World Cup coming up.

To make things more difficult, all three matches feature teams involved in European competitions.

The Metropolitan Police told The Athletic: “Whether matches go ahead is a matter for the footballing authorities.

“If fixtures do take place the Met will work with the relevant partners and ensure that appropriate policing plans are in place.”
