Pulisic vs Hazard – stats show Chelsea’s American winger is as creative as star sold to Real Madrid last summer

FRANK LAMPARD has once again compared Christian Pulisic to Eden Hazard after the American winger’s dazzling display away at Liverpool.

Despite the Blues losing 5-3 at Anfield on Wednesday night, Pulisic came off the bench to chip in with both a goal and an assist.

Here’s how Christian Pulisic and Eden Hazard compare in their first Premier League season

It brings his tally for the season to ten goals and ten assists in 32 games in all competitions, with Lampard lauding the ex-Borussia Dortmund man’s performance.

Speaking in the post-match press conference about the forward, he said: “He is hugely important. He has had that impact.

“I was here for Eden’s first year and it’s not easy to come into the Premier League, even for Eden in that first year, and adapt to the Premier League. Christian has had his moments of that.

“Since mid-season he’s had a really good patch, since the restart he has been in incredible form. Only the injury he picked up in the Norwich game has kept him out of the [FA Cup] semi-final when he is flying.

“Today he comes on and has 40 minutes, which is great for the injury to feel confident with it and shows the quality that he has been showing. He’s so young, he has got such natural talent.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

“He scores goals, he creates goals and he is a big player for us. Delighted to see him come through fit. Clearly he will be a big player for us in these next few games but going forward as well.”

Pulisic has been repeatedly likened to Hazard, with the youngster boasting almost identical stats to the Belgian international in their first season in the Premier League.

His first Premier League game came before his 21st birthday, with Hazard’s debut coming as a 21-year-old.

Hazard – who has revealed his opening year at Real Madrid has been the worst of his career – played in 34 games in the 2012/13 campaign, while Pulisic has featured in just 24 matches this term.

But despite playing fewer games, Pulisic has matched Hazard’s top-flight tally of nine goals, with the USA star having the better minutes-per-goal and goals-per-game ratio.

Pulisic has managed to register four assists in the Premier League so far, while Hazard chipped in with 11 in his first season in England.

That stat should came as no surprise as Hazard started in 31 games, with Pulisic named in Lampard’s XI just 18 times.

All signs point towards a stellar season for Pulisic in the 2021/21 season, especially as he will be playing alongside Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech up top.
