Ralf Rangnick tells Man Utd to STOP the transfer cock-ups after blowing over £1BILLION since Sir Alex Ferguson retired

RALF RANGNICK warned Manchester United the transfer cock-ups have to stop if they want to bring back the glory days.

The Red Devils have blown more than £1 BILLION in the nine years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired — yet will surely finish below Sunday afternoon’s rivals Manchester City for the ninth season in a row.

Ralf Rangnick has warned United against further mistakes

And interim manager Rangnick said: “It’s about having a clear transfer strategy, signing players who fit into that system — and that’s what both clubs have been doing in the last five or six years.

“If I look at their [City’s] transfer policy and their transfer success, they haven’t had many players who after one or two years people would have said maybe that wasn’t the right signing.

“Both clubs have been pretty successful — and this is where Manchester United have to go again.

“Under Sir Alex they were there, but since then there have been quite a few different managers.”

While title-chasing duo Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s City have been a smash hit in the transfer market, United’s big-name arrivals have often flopped.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez all arrived for big fees — or big wages — yet rarely come close to justifying the money. Last summer it was Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho but both have struggled to live up to their billing.

Angel Di Maria’s stint at United was a disappointing one

Rangnick added: “You have to have an identity of how you want to play, even how the supporters want to see us play.

“This has always been attractive, offensive, proactive football, entertaining football, and then from there make sure the recruitment is right.

“You have to be quick enough in the transfer market and sign the right players at the right moment.”

Rangnick recognises that signing the cream from Europe and beyond will be a lot easier with a top-four finish.

He said: “Financially, everybody knows what that would mean. Of course it would be better if we were in the Champions League.

“And it could also make negotiations with any new players easier.”
