Real Madrid and Barcelona ‘interested in Youri Tielemans transfer next summer if Leicester star is available’

YOURI TIELEMANS has less than two years remaining on his Leicester City deal, and his contract situation has put some of the biggest names in world football on red alert.

La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are both credited with interest by The Athletic, as are Manchester United and Liverpool.

Tielemans has played 90 minutes in all six of Leicester’s Premier League games this season
He’s also been capped 45 times by Belgium

With Paul Pogba’s future also uncertain Manchester United have made a central midfielder a priority signing, and have previously been linked with a move for Tielemans.

The 24-year-olds current deal runs out in the summer of 2023, and he is yet to commit his long term future to the East Midlanders.

Leicester are yet to receive any concrete proposals, but they are unlikely to be short of bids next summer if Tielemans still hasn’t penned a contract extension.

With Real Madrid and Barcelona both desperately short of cash, the Spanish sides could struggle to match bids from Premier League clubs.

After scoring the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in May, the Belgium international refused to immediately put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

If the creative midfielder does hold off on agreeing a contract extension, Brendan Rodgers faces the dilemma of either letting him leave next summer for a fee, or risk losing him the following year for nothing.

Transfermarkt currently value Tielemans at around £50million, having established himself as one of the club’s key assets.

But The Athletic report that he is currently happy at the club, and ‘not desperate’ to force a move away.

Tielemans though is said to be keeping his options open.

The player is thought to be keen on playing Champions League football, something he experienced with Anderlecht at just 16-years-old.

And after being well placed to finish in the top four for the last two seasons, the Foxes came unstuck on both occasions.

Failure to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition this season could sway Tielemans into pursuing a new challenge.

Leicester boss Rodgers recently said on the Tielemans situation: “I know I have a player who is so committed, one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with in my career as a manager.”

The Foxes manager also went on to say that there is ‘no drama’ as of yet regarding the Belgian.

But after losing the likes of Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell in recent years, last season’s FA Cup winners are well accustomed to moving on after parting ways with their brightest talents.

Tielemans has played 117 times for Leicester since initially joining from Monaco on loan, before making a permanent £32million move in the summer of 2019.

During that time he has scored 18 times for the club, and also contributed 21 assists.

He also played more minutes for the Foxes than any other outfield player last season, and is one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers’ teamsheet.
