, Richarlison reveals Antonio Conte phone call key to £60m Tottenham transfer after Arsenal and Chelsea bids

TOTTENHAM striker Richarlison has revealed a phone call from Antonio Conte proved pivotal in him joining the club from Everton.

The 25-year-old linked up with Spurs in a £60million deal in the summer on a long-term contract until 2027.

Richarlison has declared a phone call from Antonio Conte was key in him joining Tottenham

And he has already proven to be a hit with fans having chipped in with two goals and as many assists in eight games in all competitions.

Spurs weren’t the only team in for the ex-Watford ace, with Chelsea failing to hijack his switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Even Arsenal were interested in the 2019 Copa America winner after making contact with the Toffees.

But Richarlison, who scored twice in Brazil’s 3-0 win over Ghana on Friday night, has stated only Spurs were willing to match Everton’s asking price.

Quoted by Goal during the international break, Richarlison also opened up on the role Conte played in his transfer.

He said: “I know Chelsea made an offer, and I believe Arsenal also contacted Everton to ask about my situation.

“But Spurs came in and paid the fee, you know? It’s as simple as that.

“Everton had to sell some players to avoid a Financial Fair Play problem, and the negotiations were very brief, to be honest.

“I was on holiday in Brazil when I heard that Tottenham had made Everton an offer.

“I was happy because they are a huge team.

“Then it was all about the clubs negotiating a deal, and fortunately, everything went well.

“Antonio Conte called me during the negotiations and expressed how much he’d like to have me on board – that was vital for my decision.”

Richarlison will be looking to show Arsenal what they are missing in the North London derby next week.

A win at the Emirates for the visitors would see Conte’s side leapfrog the Gunners at the top of the Premier League table.
