Rio Ferdinand backs Man Utd’s Raul Jimenez transfer approach as he brands Wolves striker ‘immense’

RIO FERDINAND believes Raul Jimenez is the man Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to improve Manchester United’s attack.

The Wolves striker, who is celebrating the arrival of a baby girl, has scored 26 goals this season, with his latest being a stunning volley against Burnley last week.

Raul Jimenez would be a great signing for Manchester United, according to a former Old Trafford captain

Rio Ferdinand says he would love to see the Mexican up front for United

Solskjaer has been linked with several forwards, including the star, over recent months, but ex-United captain Ferdinand believes the Mexican is the man his old employers need.

He told BT Sport: “I think Wolves will do well to keep hold of him.

“I think he’s a player with immense talent and I think his goalscoring record over the last two years has been really good.

“Before that his record was a bit shady, but he has come to the Premier League and hit the ground running.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air.

“As you can tell, he seems a great character around the place, and for a top club, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are sniffing.

“We’ve seen it in the media reports in the last few days that clubs are looking.”

Ferdinand was then pressed on whether he would like to see Jimenez leading United’s forward line.

He replied: “I wouldn’t say no at all. I think he’s something different to what they’ve got.

“What I like about him is he scores all types of goals.

“He’s at the back post heading things and bullying defenders, and he can score tremendous goals like that (against Burnley) out of nothing.”

Jimenez scored 31 times in 120 appearances for Benfica before moving to Molineux two years ago.

He has hit 43 goals in 96 games for Wolves.
