SADIO MANE has been told he “needs to adapt” after being substituted during Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Barcelona last night.

The Liverpool icon was hooked after 70 minutes, with his boss Julian Nagelsmann bringing on Serge Gnabry.

Sadio Mane played 70 minutes of Bayern’s win over Barcelona

Bayern triumphed 2-0 thanks to goals by Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane, but Nagelsmann still wasn’t overly satisfied.

Asked about Mane after the game, he said: “He put in so much for Liverpool.

“He’s a new signing. He just needs to adapt. He was trying.

“I’m certain he will succeed for us.”

Mane, 30, joined Bayern in June after six years at Anfield.

He has scored five goals in his first ten appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side.

The Senegalese ace was benched last time out in the league, playing just nine minutes of his side’s 2-2 draw with Stuttgart.

Goalscorer Sane was also subbed last night, being replaced by Mathys Tel with ten minutes remaining.

The former Man City ace was fuming to be taken off, throwing a bottle in frustration.

On Bayern’s overall performance, Nagelsmann added: “In the first half, Barcelona had the better chances than us – our final ball wasn’t quite there.

“Things got much better in the second half, and our efficiency made the difference today.”

After watching his side miss a host of chances, Barca boss Xavi fumed: “We were better than Bayern in many aspects.

“We have matched them in intensity, rhythm and physicality.

“In the first half we were excellent with the ball, but I’m p***ed off because today was a day to win here.

“No way should our opponent be allowed to score from a failure of marking at a corner when we have the match under control. Or to score down the middle on a counter attack. We must learn from these mistakes.”
