SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY fan Jamie Vardy struck in the 90th minute to hammer another nail in Sheffield United’s coffin.
Oli McBurnie’s equaliser just after Ayoze Perez’s opener for Leicester looked to have been enough for a potentially precious point.
But Vardy’s last-gasp winner leaves Chris Wilder’s men with just one point from 11 games and staring down the barrel.
James Maddison pinched the ball in the middle of the pitch and played the 33-year-old in.
Using his pace to get away from John Egan, Vardy then opened his body up and expertly bent home beyond Aaron Ramsdale.
It was Vardy’s ninth of the season and moves the Foxes – who had lost their last two – to third.
The hosts were looking to catch them cold after their miserable Europa League trip to Ukraine – but Vardy had the first sight of goal at Bramall Lane.
After some tidy work in the middle, Perez slipped him in down the right.
But rather than hit it across goal he tried to catch Ramsdale out at the near post and leathered it off the woodwork.
Oli Burke was put through by Oli McBurnie moments later but slipped just as he tried to take it around Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel.
And they were made to pay by Perez – who seems only capable of scoring against the Blades – on 24 minutes.
Marc Albrighton’s volley was blocked but fell central, where the Spaniard reacted first to smash through Ramsdale from six yards.
Perez now has two goals from two games against the South Yorkshiremen.
Unfortunately though, he’s failed to score one in his 22 appearances against all other teams.
But rather than sulk as another miserable afternoon looked on the cards, the Blades were level two minutes later with their first shot.
McBurnie has copped it from all angles in recent weeks having butchered a host of golden chances.
The Scot had not scored since July and his confidence looked shot to bits – but, with his 20th attempt of the season, his time finally came.
Outmuscling and outjumping Youri Tielemans, McBurnie soared to meet John Lundstram’s corner before expertly nodding down and into the bottom left corner.
Both sides went in search of the winner after the break but failed to create any clear-cut chances.
Until Vardy was set free at the death that is. And against the bitter rivals of his beloved Sheffield Wednesday, there was no way he was going to miss.
