SIR ALEX FERGUSON has revealed the reasoning behind his infamous ‘hairdryer’ treatment.

The former Manchester United boss is renowned for his dressing-room blasts — locking horns with big personalities like Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane and David Beckham.

Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed he only lost his temper for the right reasons
Ferguson famously won 13 Premier League titles during his legendary stint in charge at Old Trafford

But the Scot claims his tantrums were necessary.

He said: “On the issue of losing my temper, I only ever did it for the right reason. One was to remind them of the expectation of playing for Manchester United.

“I always told them the truth. But I never ever brought it up after the game on a Sunday or Monday.

“It was all over in the dressing room and I expected it to.

“The odd time it would leak out but what I really had to remind the players was the expectation I placed on them in training sessions and what we did for them every day and what we expected to get out of them.

“It was the expectation of the three points.”

Ferguson set out at Old Trafford to knock Liverpool off their ‘perch’ as the dominant side in English football.

He famously succeeded, winning 13 Premier League titles to take United’s tally to 20 – two ahead of their bitter rivals.

Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have since narrowed that gap to one.

And Fergie admits he is relieved he never had to face this Liverpool team.

He added: “Liverpool’s success in the 70s and 80s was phenomenal and to do something about that I had to take a road that was difficult.

“We had to wait and it was about building a club instead of building a team and eventually it turned out fantastic for us.

“Now I have retired, thank goodness I have when I see Liverpool’s performances.”
