Sky Sports Offers Apology for “Insensitive” Comment About Sean Dyche

Sky Sports has issued an apology for a comment made about Sean Dyche during the live coverage of Aston Villa's victory over Everton, admitting that the remarks were "insensitive."

Insensitive Comment Sparks Outrage

Commentators Bill Leslie and Andy Hinchcliffe came under fire after suggesting that Dyche looked like a "croupier," referring to a casino worker. Dyche, the Toffees' manager, was wearing a black armband in memory of Michael Jones, a supporter who tragically passed away while working on Everton's new stadium at the age of 26.

Sky Sports Takes Responsibility

Sky Sports released a statement addressing the incident, stating, "Comments made during the Aston Villa v Everton game were insensitive and regrettable. We have spoken to everyone involved in the coverage, including both the commentators, and reminded them of their responsibilities and the need for care and sensitivity. We apologize for any upset or distress caused by these comments."

Regret from the Commentators

Both Leslie and Hinchcliffe are understood to have expressed their regret at their comments, acknowledging their wrongful behavior.

Tributes for Jones

In addition to Dyche, the rest of his backroom staff and the Everton players also wore black armbands in honor of Michael Jones. Aston Villa and Everton fans observed a minute's applause in the 26th minute during the game at Villa Park, while Jones was also remembered at Anfield where Liverpool was hosting Bournemouth.

Backlash on Social Media

Leslie and Hinchcliffe's comments garnered criticism on social media platforms. Disgusted viewers took to Twitter to voice their dissatisfaction with the insensitive remarks made about Dyche and the late Michael Jones.

Everton's Early-Season Struggles

Following their 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa, Everton has now lost their first two games of the season. The Toffees previously suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham.
