But some fans would have been way too distracted to listen to the Dutchman’s words, thanks to a bumbling error from Sky.

As Ten Hag spoke, Erik Hen Tag came up on screen, much to the amusement of fans.

One said: “What’s this? Who did this to my gaffer? Erik Hen Tag?

Another added: ERIK HEN TAG??”

One said: “Who is Erik Hen Tag come on @SkySports it’s not hard.”

Goals from Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay saw United through to the next round of the EFL Cup.

United boss Ten Hag was left unhappy with how his side started the game but praised them for their recovery.

He said: “Our two halves are never the same.

“We controlled the game in the first half by good pressing, we won a lot of possession but then did the wrong things.

“Bad in transition, missing the pass, one step too late passing in behind so we missed a lot of opportunities.

“We were sloppy and had some corners against us. At half time we said keep the pressing but be more direct.

“I’m proud of the team we could do that, we are happy tonight.”
