Solskjaer confirms Man Utd will enter much-changed transfer market in summer with Jadon Sancho and Grealish on wishlist

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is braced for a “completely different” transfer window following the coronavirus pandemic.

The Manchester United boss had prepared to spend big this summer on the likes of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho.

Jadon Sancho remains at the top of Solskjaer’s wishlist

It is no secret that Solskjaer will be handed a transfer warchest to outspend his rivals in the region of £274million.

But the impact of Covid-19 is hitting finances in football harder than ever with many clubs being forced to tighten the purse-strings following a lack of games.

It means there is likely to be a lot less movement across Europe this summer involving big transfer fees.

And Solskjaer even hinted that there is a chance United’s attack may not be strengthened during an interview with Sky Sports.

He said: “I think Mason [Greenwood], Anthony [Martial] and Marcus [Rashford] this season have been fantastic. They’ve scored upwards of 50 goals, the three of them.

“Marcus was on course for his best season, Anthony was on course for his best season, Mason, of course, is just a unique talent, with his goalscoring abilities.

“But we’re always looking to improve the squad and this uncertainty in the market now, who knows how football is going to be and how the market is going to be.

“But I’m very happy with the squad I’ve got.

“I think today’s world is different to what it was two months ago.

“We’ve got to adjust to that and there are clubs out there struggling more than us financially.

“But it’s still a new world and the transfer market this summer will be completely different to what anyone thought it was going to be.”

Grealish is expected to leave Aston Villa for around £60m even if they ensure Premier League survival while Sancho will set United back around £120m.

Solskjaer also provided positive injury updates on Rashford and Paul Pogba by claiming they’ll be back among the group when the team returns to full training.

He added: “For them two, this gives them a chance to start on a par or even ahead of other players if and when we get going.”

But the Norwegian insists he will not force any players into restarting the season if they were worried about their health.

The Premier League want ‘Project Restart’ to commence next month but still have plenty of obstacles to iron out.

Solskjaer said: “No, you wouldn’t hold anything against them cause you need to get to know everyone.

“And that’s throughout the season anyway, if a player’s mentally not ready to play I don’t think we could force anyone.

“I think they’ve not raised too many concerns but of course we trust the experts and the health officers and who knows if and when this is safe to start again.”
