Swansea face fight to retain THREE stars with Italian side Salernitana and Southampton eyeing up transfers

ITALIAN side Salernitana want to sign Swansea goal machine Joel Piroe in a £10million deal.

The Serie A outfit think Piroe would be a hit  and is young enough to move on again to a bigger club.

Matt Grimes joined the Swans’ midfield in 2015 but could be off to the Saints

Scottish midfielder Jay Fulton, who has been at Southampton nine years, is set to be targeted by incoming Southampton boss Russell Martin

The Dutchman, 23, has also been linked with the Premier League but the Italians are pushing hard and the Swans will sell.

Piroe joined the Welsh club in 2021 after two years with PSV Eindhoven.

Russell Martin is set to be unveiled as Southampton boss this week — and will try to sign two of his Swansea old boys.

Martin’s long-awaited move should go ahead once Saints are officially relegated at Wednesday’s Premier League AGM.

That will mean less compensation for the Swans.

Martin will go back to them with bids for midfielders Matty Grimes and Scot Jay Fulton.

Grimes, 27, has been with Swansea since 2015 and 29-year-old Fulton joined the year before that.

They could be needed by the Saints as midfield ace Stuart Armstrong is eyeing a move abroad.

Armstrong, 31, is about to enter the last year of his contract.

The 41-cap Scot has interest in England but would like a crack at Europe while at the top of his game.

Armstrong arrived at Saint Mary’s from Celtic in 2018, having previously been with Dundee United.
