Tottenham add forgotten Premier League star to coaching staff as Ange Postecoglou’s team takes shape

A FORGOTTEN former Premier League star has been named as Ange Postecoglou’s new assistant coach at Tottenham.

The Australian, 57, left Celtic after being appointed as Antonio Conte’s successor earlier this month.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed his new coaching setup at Tottenham

A former Aston Villa midfielder has been named as part of the team

He penned a four-year deal with Spurs as chairman Daniel Levy hailed his “positive mentality” and “fast, attacking style of play.”

Now Postecoglou and Tottenham have confirmed the new coaching team that will be working under him.

And it includes an ex-Premier League midfielder that starred for both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in the top-flight.

His senior assistant coach will be Chris Davies, who previously worked at Liverpool, Swansea and Leicester.

But it was the announcement of Mile Jedinak that was perhaps the most eye-catching.

The 38-year-old, who hung up his boots in 2019, previously played under Postecoglou for the Australian national team.

Now he will be working for him as assistant coach.

He has previously spent time as a youth and loan development coach at Villa.

Long-serving Tottenham coach Ryan Mason, who took over as caretaker for the final few games of the season, is remaining at the club.

He and Matt Wells have both been named as assistant coach.

Ex-Spurs goalkeeper Rob Burch returns as first team goalkeeping coach having previously worked with their academy until 2019.

He went on to have similar roles with the Football Association, Fulham, Bournemouth and Club Brugge.

Postecoglou’s fellow countryman Scott Munn was already appointed as chief football officer.

The group will start work alongside Postecoglou from Saturday, when Munn, who will oversee all football matters and effectively be Daniel Levy’s No2, also begins his post.

Spurs are heading Down Under on July 14 for their pre-season tour, which begins in Perth where they will play West Ham.

They then move on to Bangkok, Thailand, to face Leicester and then finally to Singapore where they take on Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
