Tottenham name Marcel Lavinier in 25-man squad for Europa League knockout stages with Jose set to give 20-year-old shot

JOSE MOURINHO has included youngster Marcel Lavinier in his 25-man squad for the Europa League knockout stages.

The 20-year-old defender joined the Lilywhites from Chelsea in October but is yet to feature for the club.

Lavinier could be set to receive his Tottenham debut in the Europa League

But now it appears he could be set for his first call-up to the first team after being included as a part of Spurs’ European set-up.

He has represented Portugal at Under-18’s level but also England in the Under-17’s.

Lavinier enters Mourinho’s Europa League side after Cameron Carter-Vickers went on loan to Bournemouth and Jack Clarke moved temporarily to Stoke City.

Those two loan moves freed up space for Lavinier to earn his place in the squad.

After signing for Tottenham three months ago, he said: “Delighted to have signed for @spursofficial in the next step of my career.

“Very big club with very high ambitions. Grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to get started!”

Spurs qualified for the round of 32 by topping their Europa League group, finishing with a record of four wins, one draw and one defeat.

They will now face Austrian side Wolfsberger AC for a place in the last 16.

The first leg will take place on Thursday, February 18, before the return fixture in North London six days later.

Mourinho has experience winning the Europa League on two occasions having lifted the trophy with Porto and Manchester United.

Following Spurs’ recent dip in form in the Premier League, Europe remains one of the club’s best chances of winning a trophy this season along with the domestic cup competitions.

Tottenham face Man City in the Carabao Cup final and take on Everton in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.
