FRANK LAMPARD consoled Ray Clemence’s son following the legend’s death in a touching moment before Chelsea’s game at Newcastle .

The Blues boss headed over to Stephen Clemence during the warm-ups at St James’ Park before the lunchtime kick-off.

Lampard and Clemence – who is part of Steve Bruce’s Newcastle coaching staff – shook hands and embraced.

The pair had a brief conversation with Clemence appearing to say: “Thanks Frank.”

He then gave Lampard him the thumbs up as they went their separate ways before the Premier League clash.

Clemence Sr passed away at the age of 72 last weekend.

His family released a statement confirming the Liverpool, Tottenham and England icon had ‘passed away peacefully’.

The goalkeeper leaves behind his wife Veronica, daughters Julie and Sarah as well as son Stephen, who also played for Spurs, Birmingham and Leicester.

A family statement read: “After fighting so hard, for such a long time, he’s now at peace and in no more pain.

“The family would like to say a huge thank you, for all the love and support that he’s received over the years.

“He was loved so much by us all and he will never be forgotten.”

Tributes poured in from across the football community from team-mates and players alike for the popular 61-cap hero.
