Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘had had NO contact with England and expects to be axed from Gareth Southgate’s Euro squad’

LIVERPOOL star Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘not expecting’ to make Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 England squad.

The right-back, 22, was a shock omission for the World Cup qualifiers back in March.

He bounced back from that setback with a string of impressive displays for the Reds to help them secure Champions League qualification.

His chances of earning an international recall for the showpiece were boosted even further when Uefa ruled teams could choose 26 players instead of 23 for the tournament.

Now The Athletic reports he is set to miss out and there has been no contact between England boss Southgate or anyone in his camp and Alexander-Arnold.

However, it does state there is still time for that to happen ahead of the squad announcement tomorrow.

Back in March, Southgate explained he left out the star as he had not ‘hit that level he’s hit with Liverpool for England’.

He has 12 caps for his country, completing 90 minutes just four times, but starting ten of them.

Discussing his youngster’s England axe back in March, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “I didn’t understand it because Trent Alexander-Arnold was in the last two seasons at least – let me say the season before and the season before that – the stand-out right-back in world football.

“That is the truth and he did it at an unbelievable young age. He was the stand-out right-back in world football.

“If Alexander-Arnold is not in the squad of England then England must have an extremely good squad, let me say it like this.

“As a summary, I respect the decision, of course I do, but I didn’t understand it.”

England kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Croatia on June 13 before facing Scotland and Czech Republic in the group stage.
