Former England Player and Premier League Star Takes on New Role

Trevor Sinclair, who played for the England national team in the 2002 World Cup, has officially joined the coaching staff of the India national team. With 12 caps to his name, Sinclair brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

A Journeyman Career in the Premier League

Sinclair's football career saw him play for several Premier League clubs, including West Ham, QPR, and Manchester City. He also spent time with Blackpool and Cardiff before retiring in 2008. Despite officially hanging up his boots, Sinclair had a brief stint with Squires Gate, a non-league team, at the age of 44.

Excitement Over the New Role

Sinclair took to social media to share his excitement about joining the Indian national team coaching staff. In a post on X, he expressed his gratitude to head coach Igor Stimac for the opportunity. Sinclair stated that he is honored to accept the challenge and is committed to helping the entire team.

Connection with Head Coach Stimac

Sinclair and head coach Igor Stimac were teammates at West Ham between 1999 and 2001. Stimac, a former Croatian center-back, played for Derby and earned 53 caps before transitioning into management. He took charge of the Croatian national team before accepting the position with India in 2019.

Asian Cup Campaign

The Indian national team kicked off their Group B campaign in the Asian Cup with a match against Australia on January 13. They will also face Uzbekistan and Syria in the group stage of the competition. The tournament will also see Tottenham's Son Heung-min and Liverpool's Mo Salah representing their respective nations.

Coaching Experience and Transition to Punditry

Sinclair has previous coaching experience, having served as an assistant manager at Lancaster City and worked with a football academy at Bamber Bridge. However, he later transitioned to a career in punditry, working with the BBC and talkSPORT.
