Watch Arsenal hardman Sokratis lift outrageously heavy weights to send team-mates bonkers

ARSENAL hardman Sokratis Papastathopoulos sent his team-mates bonkers after lifting outrageously heavy weights in training.

The Greek defender, 31, has returned to training following an illness – and is clearly as fit as ever.

In a video shared to social media, Sokratis – cheered on by his team-mates – shows off his ridiculous strength.

The former Borussia Dortmund centre-back performs three reps of the exercise – with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Matteo Guendouzi and Bukayo Saka just three of the cheerleaders in the background.

After egging him on with a series of “oohs”, the Gunners squad erupt in a chorus of cheers after tough-guy Sokratis pulls of the outrageous lift.

But it wasn’t just his pals who were loving it – fans on Twitter did too.

One wrote: “He’s more machine than man now.”

Another joked: “Celebrate like they won a cup.”

Sokratis is now in contention to take on Bournemouth in the fourth-round of the FA Cup this weekend.

David Luiz is banned for the game after picking up a red card in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday.

Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – a 40million target for Barcelona – is also suspended as he continues to serve a three-match ban for his horror lunge on Crystal Palace star Max Meyer.

Reiss Nelson (hamstring) and Sead Kolasinac (thigh) are still out through injury.

Meanwhile, Calum Chambers (knee) and Kieran Tierney (shoulder) are both long-term injuries having undergone surgery on their respective injuries.

Arsenal are now set to chase defenders Dayot Upamecano or Mykola Matviyenko this month with the funds from Auba’s move, should it go through.

But one player staying at the club is on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos, who had his request to leave turned down by Mikel Arteta.
