The Brazilian kept possession well and passed it off

And still full of confidence, he rolled the ball through Hammers midfielder Soucek‘s legs.

By the time Soucek could react, Martinelli glided past him and laid the ball off to team-mate Thomas Partey to keep ahold of possession.

An Arsenal fan reacted: “Gabriel Martinelli channelling his inner Thierry Henry.”

Another said: “That nutmeg took Martinelli’s value up by 50 million.”

The Brazilian was ‘having the time of his life’ out on the pitch and sent Soucek ‘back to Slavia Prague’.

A Gunners fan added: “A nutmeg for the ages, sending Tomas Soucek back to Slavia Prague.”

Another said: “Filthy Martinelli, that’s someone’s dad.”

Boss Mikel Arteta singled Martinelli out for praise after the game, hailing his energy.

He said: “Well certainly it was one of the best in every aspect of the game.

“He was cramping again and he needs to mature in that sense but his overall understanding of the game is getting much better.

“He’s able to put some gears into his play. Sometimes he’s still doing everything at 100 miles per hour but the energy and quality he shows at times is top.”
