WATFORD ace Samir revealed he psyched Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo out by bringing up the past.
The Hornets’ January signing marked Ronaldo on Saturday at Old Trafford and kept him quiet as he led Roy Rodgson’s strugglers to a goalless draw.
That was the sixth time the two men face off as they had five meetings in Italy while the United star played for Juventus and the Brazilian competed for Udinese.
Therefore, the 27-year-old was already accustomed with how the five-time Ballon d’Or winner operates on the pitch.
The former Flamengo star was assigned on the Portugal international for corners and decided to play some mind games with him before kick-off by reminding him he is no stranger to his methods.
Samir told Globo: “I had already faced Cristiano Ronaldo four or five times in Italy, so I already knew him more or less.
“Yesterday [Saturday] I had the opportunity to see him on the field again, and I had a chat with him: “I’ll have to tag you again, right? I’d tag you in Italy, I’ll have to tag you here”.
“And I was assigned to mark him in the area, in the corners.
“So I had this little dialogue with him.”
Samir kept Ronaldo silent at Old Trafford but that was only the third time he manages that.
In fact, the star forward has registered five goals in all of his meetings against the Watford centre-back.
