WAYNE BRIDGE says there are jealous people around football who want Frank Lampard to fail as a manager.

Lampard has turned Chelsea into title challengers this season and guided the club to top spot in their Champions League group but there are still some sniping about his move into the dugout.

Wayne Bridge attends the “Running in North Korea” World Premiere.

And former team-mate Bridge would love for the Blues to win the league this season to silence the envy he says is present in the critics.

Bridge said: “To be honest a lot of people are probably a little bit jealous of him getting the job so early, and a lot of people are hoping he doesn’t do well.

“There’s always jealous people out there. People wanted to write him off straight away, maybe because he was such a good player.

“I’m buzzing for him. I’d love to see him go and win it this year, love it.

“They’re definitely capable of challenging, 100 per cent. I would like to think they go and win it.

“They are contenders, I think they look good.

“Mourinho looks like he’s his old self again, but I don’t want Spurs to win it. I played for Chelsea, it’s Spurs isn’t it – most people don’t want to see Spurs win it to be honest.

“I’d love to see Lamps win it, and he’s got a great chance. The squad they’ve got, and don’t forget a lot of these players only signed this year and it does take a while to settle.

“They are going to be even better next year when the players have settled down more. But they are settling in alright and they look good. He’s got a good squad there.”

Bridge was speaking as part of eToro when they released a survey which revealed three out of four football fans have enjoyed the game less over lockdown as they found they were becoming distracted with other things.

That is about to end with grounds reopening and ex-England star added: “Fans are massively important. One, they bring so much money into the clubs, but also football wouldn’t be as big as it is if it wasn’t for the fans.”
