WEST HAM are so desperate to axe Jack Wilshere they are willing to pay a chunk of his £100,000-a-week wages at another club, according to reports.
The former Arsenal midfielder, 28, has started just six times since moving across London in 2018.
Injuries and lack of form have hindered him badly – with Wilshere managing just 35 minutes of football since October.
The club are now in talks with Wilshere over buying out the final year of his contract, according to The Times.
Should they fail to come to an agreement, West Ham will look to sell Wilshere this summer.
With his £100,000-a-week wages likely to prove a stumbling block in any potential negotiations, the Hammers are willing to pay the difference.
If no-one comes knocking for the former England international, Wilshere is likely to see out the final season of his contract on the bench.
Wilshere is currently with West Ham on their pre-season training camp in Scotland.
Former West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini had pushed hard to sign Wilshere from Arsenal two summers ago.
The Chilean was keen to play attractive, attacking football and took a chance on the injury-prone midfielder.
However, a spate of nasty injuries – including his ankle and groin – saw him miss much of 2019-20.
With the club now under the leadership of David Moyes, the Irons are desperate to offload Wilshere’s burdensome wages.
Wilshere burst onto the scene at Arsenal in 2008, aged just 16.
But 12 years on, he has made just 182 Premier League appearances – averaging just 15 matches per season.
Wilshere was loaned to Bolton and Bournemouth during his time at Arsenal, but the Gunners eventually gave up and sold him to West Ham – whom he supported as a child – in 2018.
West Ham face Newcastle in their opening fixture of the 2020-21 season, with Wilshere hopeful of staying fit and proving he deserves a chance to stay on.
