‘What a touch, what a finish’ – Chelsea legend John Terry praises brilliant Kai Havertz winner vs Newcastle

And it was a goal worthy of winning any game with Havertz finally getting the better of his marker Dan Burn.

Earlier in the match Havertz had clashed with the Toon defender and was fortunate not to see red for an elbow which left Burn bleeding.

But in the 89th minute, Havertz showed the classy side of his game as he brought down Jorginho’s long ball with an expert first touch before firing past Robert Sanchez.

After the full-time whistle Chelsea legend Terry wrote on Twitter: “What a touch, what a finish.”

Havertz’s skill was reminiscent of Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp and he is showing why the Blues spent around £70million on him.

The forward has seven goals in his last seven games and is keeping £100m man Romelu Lukaku out of the side with his impressive performances.

Thomas Tuchel will be pleased he has finally found the right player to lead his attack.

And the German boss will hope Havertz can inspire his side to victory in France on Wednesday, although even a one-goal defeat would be enough to see them past Lille.

With uncertainty around Chelsea’s financial situation Tuchel joked that he would be prepared to drive his players to Lille in a seven-seater car if necessary.

Chelsea have been restricted to a budget of just £20,000 for travel to away games as a result of the sanctions imposed on the club on Thursday.

That means the squad may have to take Easyjet flights to travel to away games in the UK and on the continent with private jets out of the question.
