What Man Utd, Chelsea and Leicester must do on final day to secure Champions League football next season

MANCHESTER UNITED, Chelsea and Leicester have just one game left to play in their battle for a Champions League place.

The three clubs are fighting for just two top-four spots – with one side forced to settle for the Europa League.

How the race for the top four looks going into the final game

With all three dropping points in recent games, the race is really heating up.

Man Utd stumbled to a surprising 1-1 draw with West Ham – who confirmed their top-flight status for next season with the point.

Chelsea lost an eight-goal thriller to Liverpool 5-3 on the night the Reds were presented the Premier League trophy.

And Leicester’s form since the restart has been abysmal, including a 4-1 defeat against Bournemouth and a 3-0 loss at Tottenham.

But what does each team need to do to secure a spot at Europe’s top table? We take a look…

MAN UTD – Leicester (A)

Man Utd need only a draw at Leicester to secure a top-four spot

CURRENTLY third – ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea only on goal difference – Man Utd face a trip to top-four rivals Leicester on the final day.

While the game will prove tricky, United do have the advantage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s are one point above Brendan Rodgers’ side.

A draw would be enough to secure them Champions League football for 2020-21.

Man Utd can LOSE and still grab a top-four spot, too – providing Chelsea are also beaten at home to Wolves.

CHELSEA – Wolves (H)

Chelsea need a point to secure their top-four place

THE Blues also sit one point above Leicester – but are miles adrift of Man Utd’s goal difference – at +13 to the Red Devils’ +28.

Frank Lampard will regroup his troops and return to Stamford Bridge for a tough home game with Wolves.

But Chelsea go into the game knowing a point will be enough to secure them a top-four spot, regardless of what happens at Leicester.

The Blues can even LOSE and still land a place in next season’s Champions League – provided Man Utd beat Leicester.

LEICESTER – Man Utd (H)

Leicester can draw and still earn a Champions League spot but would likely need a victory

THE Foxes host Man Utd on the final day knowing they need a result.

A win would secure Leicester a Champions League spot.

But a draw could also be enough.

Should Leicester draw against Man Utd and Chelsea lose to Wolves, the Foxes would steal fourth place on goal difference.

Both Leicester and Chelsea have scored 67 goals this season, but the Foxes have conceded far fewer, boasting a far superior goal difference (+28 to +13).
