When Gary Neville had ‘goalgasm’ after Fernando Torres scored for Chelsea against Barcelona on this date in 2012

GARY NEVILLE became an instant internet sensation after he let out a hilarious long background groan as co-commentator after Fernando Torres equalised for Chelsea to KO Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final at the Nou Camp.

Gary’s groan quickly became dubbed as the ‘goalgasm’!

The goal produced a hilarious reaction from pundit Gary Neville

The match on April 24, 2012 – which also featured a sublime chip by Ramires – finished 2-2 thanks to Torres.

With 90 minutes on the clock, the Blues striker made sure of the London club’s progression to the final when he ran through on goal from inside his own half, rounded Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes and tapped in.

Working alongside Martin Tyler for Sky Sports, Neville reacted as the ball hit the hit with a prolonged moan of ecstasy that has been replayed and remixed a million times since.

The former England full-back tweeted in reference to his weird high-pitched reaction to the late goal… along with a photo of some Strepsils said: “Wow! Football. My sore throat collapsed on the Torres goal! #squeakynevtime

Never mind Blues’ stunning achievement to record a draw at the Nou Camp – despite playing with ten men for 53 minutes having had John Terry sent off in the first half – the cry of Neville remains the memory for most of the semi-final tie.

Some have even rated it as the most memorable commentary moment on Sky Sports – beating Kevin Keegan’s famous ‘I’d love it’ rant from 1996.
