Who Chelsea have sold since the Frank Lampard era and where they are today including Alvaro Morata and forgotten stars

CHELSEA have sold or released 23 players since Frank Lampard took charge in June 2019.

Some, like Eden Hazard and David Luiz went to huge clubs while others have since flopped into obscurity.

Alvaro Morata failed to deliver at Chelsea and has spent time with Atletico Madrid and Juventu since

Lampard was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January.

But here SunSport take a look at some of the best and worst Chelsea departures since the club legend was appointed.

ALVARO MORATA

After struggling for form and goals with Chelsea after his move from Real Madrid, the striker was loaned out to Atletico Madrid for the 2019-20 season.

The Spaniards eventually signed him permanently in July 2020 for £58million but sent him out on loan to Juventus – where he remains – just two months later.

EDEN HAZARD

One of Chelsea’s finest players of all time finally got his £130m move to Real Madrid in July 2019.

But Hazard – whose Fifa rating has dropped drastically – has struggled with injuries in Spain and has failed to get going.

He has featured just eight times this campaign, has failed to score and provided just one assist.

And he has only managed five goals and nine assists from 51 games since his move more than two years ago.

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting the Blues are considering re-signing him.

OLA AINA

The right-back was sold to Torino for £8.82m after a loan spell with the Italians.

He came through Chelsea’s youth academy but made just six appearances for the first team.

Ola Aina is a Torino regular but was not good enough to cut it at Stamford Bridge

TOMAS KALAS

Czech centre-back Kalas was loaned out to SIX different clubs while on the books with the Blues.

Bristol City was his final destination before the west country side signed him for £8.1m in July 2019.

DAVID LUIZ

The opinion splitting Brazilian was sold to Arsenal for £8m in August 2019.

Luiz won the Premier League, Champions League and two Europa Leagues with Chelsea as well as two FA Cups with the Blues and one with the Gunners.

He is now with Flamengo after being released by Arsenal at the end of last season and was recently in a war of words with Jamie Carragher – accusing the pundit of ‘forgetting the past’.

MICHAEL HECTOR

Hector, 29, was sold to Chelsea’s local rivals Fulham for just £5.3m in January 2020.

He never made a first team appearance for Chelsea and has played just 35 times for the Cottagers.

But his only two showings this season have come in the League Cup.

Michael Hector never played for Chelsea and has played just twice for Fulham this season

KENNETH OMERUO

Little-known Omeruo made his loan spell at Spanish side Leganes permanent in August 2019.

The centre-back is another never to have made a first team appearance for the Blues.

But he has gone on to play 88 times for the Segunda Division side in his two years there.

Kenneth Omeruo has played 88 games for Leganes since his departure from Chelsea

MARIO PASALIC

Centre-midfielder Pasalic left for Atalanta in a £13m deal in September 2020 after a loan spell there.

He has played 129 times for the Serie A outfit since and scored 27 goals.

Another man never to play for Chelsea’s first team.

NATHAN

Guess what…? The Brazilian attacking midfielder didn’t play for Chelsea’s first team either.

He spent five years on the West Londoners’ books before making a loan spell to Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro permanent in July 2020.

They paid £2.7m for him and he has reached 13 goals in 99 games for his new club.
