Man City are hoping to make history this season and they only require the illusive Champions League trophy to do so.

Guardiola’s side claimed this season’s Premier League title despite being eight points behind Arsenal at one stage.

But if Man City have won both the Premier League and FA Cup, who will they play in the Community Shield?

Who will Man City play in the Community Shield?

Generally, the two teams that take part in the Community Shield are the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners.

However, as Man City have incredibly won both competitions this season, their opponent will be determined another way.

Pep Guardiola’s side will face the Premier League runners-up in the Community Shield, which of course was Arsenal.

The Gunners were leading Man City for much of the Premier League campaign but failed to hold off Guardiola’s serial winners.

Mikel Arteta will have the opportunity to claim revenge on his former employers in the Community Shield.

When is the Community Shield?

  • The date for this year’s Community Shield is yet to be confirmed, but it’s likely to take place on August 5th or 6th.
  • Last year’s Community Shield was broadcast live on ITV, and ITV is likely to be the TV provider this year.

Who won the 2022 Community Shield?

Last year’s Community Shield was between FA Cup winners Liverpool and Premier League champions Man City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were victorious, beating City 3-1 at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez helped the Reds claim the trophy.
