Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo the bookies favourite for Arsenal manager job as fans call for Unai Emery to be sacked

ARSENAL could turn to Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo with Unai Emery on the brink of the sack.

The Portuguese boss is the bookies favourite to take over at the Emirates in a bid to salvage Arsenal’s season.

The Gunners hierarchy have held crisis talks over the future of Emery and it appears a matter of when and not if they finally decide to swing the axe.

Arsenal are on a dreadful run of no wins in six matches and sit eight points adrift of Chelsea in fourth.

Their recent 2-2 draw with Southampton on Saturday was the final straw for a number of supporters who now want the manager gone.

It is also claimed that the club’s persistence to keep Emery at the helm is causing unrest in the dressing room.

The club’s board, led by Head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu are believed to be drawing up a potential shortlist of replacements.

And it appears Santo is one of the names on top of the list following his success with their Premier League rivals.

He achieved promotion to the Premier League as champions in 2018 and took the club to seventh spot in his first season in the top flight.

Wolves now sit fifth in the Prem while juggling their Europa League campaign.

Other names on the list include former midfielder Mikel Arteta – currently assistant to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

The Spaniard is 3/1 with Ladbrokes with former Juventus manager Max Allegri currently 5/1 in the market.

Rafa Benitez is 6/1 to make a swift return to the Premier League with Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe also in the running.

And any punters believing the club can lure Mauricio Pochettino to the Emirates after leaving fierce rivals Tottenham can back him at 8/1.

A number of long shots include Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone (20/1) and Niko Kovac (20/1) after he was recently sacked by Bayern Munich.
