Zinedine Zidane opens up on Man Utd manager job and hints at taking over as PSG boss in future

ZINEDINE ZIDANE has lifted the lid on why he turned down the chance to take charge of Manchester United last year.

The former Real Madrid gaffer, 50, was heavily linked with the Red Devils job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

Zinedine Zidane has been out of a job since leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2020-21 season

It was even reported how the 1998 World Cup winner was taking English lessons to further fuel speculation he was to join United.

Though it was claimed that his wife Veronique did not want to live in Manchester.

Zizou ultimately snubbed a switch to Old Trafford, resulting in Ralf Rangnick being appointed on an interim basis.

And Zidane, who hasn’t had a managerial job since departing the Bernabeu in May 2021, has now opened up on why he never decided to link up with United.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Zidane said: “When I’m told: ‘Do you want to go to Manchester?’ I understand English but I don’t fully master it.

“I know there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language. But I work differently.

“To win, many elements come into play. It is a global context. I know what I need to win.

“So, of course you can’t win but I know it takes at least this, this and this. And I want to put everything on my side to optimise the victory.”

Zidane has also been linked with the vacant Paris Saint-Germain job following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

And the Los Blancos legend has hinted he would welcome a move to Parc des Princes in the future, as he remarked: “Never say never.

“Especially when you’re a coach nowadays. When I was a player, I could choose, almost every club.

“As a coach, there aren’t fifty clubs I can go to. There are two or three possibilities.

“If I go back to a club, it’s to win. I say this in all modesty. That’s why I can’t go anywhere.”

Though Zidane has stressed that it is his dream to manage France’s national team.

He stated: “I’m not finished with Les Bleus. I want to do it, of course. I will be [France coach], I hope, one day. When? That’s not up to me.
