Mesut Ozil sends Olivier Giroud message after France star steals ex-Arsenal man’s signature move with World Cup goal

MESUT OZIL sent Olivier Giroud a cheeky message after the striker copied one of the Arsenal’s stars trademark goals.

France are into the quarter-finals against England after they swept away Poland.

Brilliant Giroud got France on their way with a Ozil-inspired goal

Ozil and Giroud shared several years together at the Emirates

Kylian Mbappe stole headlines after two brilliant goals but it was Giroud who got the opener just before half-time.

The 36-year-old’s strike was a landmark goal as he surpassed Thierry Henry as France top all-time scorer.

And he borrowed some inspiration from another former Arsenal player to get there.

Played through on goal, Giroud twisted his body and smacked the ball against the ground to get his shot past former teammate Wojciech Szczesny.

The effort had a striking similarity to Ozil‘s signature shot which he pulled off several times while with Giroud at the Emirates.

And the German, who retired from international football in 2018 and is now playing in Turkey, saw the similarities.

He aimed a playful tweet at Giroud that said: “Nice goal… who taught you that bro.”

Along with emojis and his catchphrase “#YaGunnersYa”, Ozil added a funny GIF that showed the pair at Arsenal exchanging a glance.

Giroud’s excellent finish set France on their way after a nervous first-half.

An awkward goal-line melee almost saw Poland take the lead minutes before Giroud’s opener.

And then in the second half Didier Deschamps side established their dominance with Mbappe scoring two stunning goals to seal victory.

Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot deep in stoppage time to grab a consolation goal.

France are now on a collision course to face England in the quarter-finals with Gareth Southgate having only days left to work out how to stop superstar Mbappe.
