A FORMULA 2 driver has survived a life-threatening crash at Silverstone after a car landed on top of him in a horror collision.

Dennis Hauger’s car was launched into the air after he connected with a sausage curb on the second lap of this morning’s F2 race.

This was the shocking moment Dennis Hauger’s Prema flew onto Roy Nissany’s DAMS car

The whole weight of Hauger’s car ended up on top of Nissany in the unusual crash

Hauger’s car lost control and then came together with Nissany at the corner

He then flew into Roy Nissany, with the Israeli driver miraculously appearing to avoid injury despite the collision.

Motorsport fans are thanking the halo for saving Nissany, with the safety device built into the cockpit to protect the head of the driver.

Nissany had been competing with Hauger for position before last season’s F3 champion slid onto the sausage curb and was launched into the air.

Dramatic pictures show Hauger landing on the top of Nissany at high speed, but both drivers thankfully walked away from the crash.

The incident occured at the end of the second lap at the penultimate Vale corner.

The incident triggered the safety car as Silverstone officials rushed to check on the welfare of the two drivers.

Both cars were left too damaged to continue by the high-speed collision and had to be cleared away.

Hauger was last season’s F3 Champion and is a junior driver with Red Bull.

A disappointing qualifying session on Friday saw him start today’s feature race 13th, with Nissany two places ahead of him.

The crash occurred as the two fought for track position and made repeated attempts to get ahead of one another as the race entered its third lap.

Once the race got underway again, it was eventually won by Carlin’s Logan Sargeant.

The aftermath of the collision saw fans take to Twitter to pay tribute to the halo.

The safety mechanism has previously been called into action and credited with saving drivers’ lives.

The best example of recent times is Romain Grosjean’s fiery 2020 crash in Bahrain, which saw his car split in half.

A crash between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton last season also saw the Red Bull driver end up on top of the Brit, with the halo again deemed crucial in protecting Hamilton.
