F1 Star Alex Albon Demands Two-Day Race Weekends but Fears It’s Unlikely

TV Money Stands in the Way

Williams F1 driver, Alex Albon, has called for a major change to race weekends in Formula 1, suggesting a two-day format instead of the traditional three-day schedule. However, he fears that this shift will never happen due to the importance of television revenue.

Alex Albon's Proposal

In an interview with the Express, Albon expressed his desire for a two-day race weekend, with practice and qualifying taking place on Saturday and the race on Sunday. He acknowledged that TV money is a significant factor that could prevent this change from taking place.

Packed Calendar Concerns

Albon, currently sitting 13th in the driver standings, shared his concerns about the increasingly busy race calendar. He revealed that the drivers won't be able to fully enjoy the upcoming F1 race in Las Vegas due to the packed schedule.

Vegas Excitement

Despite the challenges, Albon expressed his excitement for the Las Vegas race in 2023. However, he noted that the drivers' limited time for exploration and celebration will prevent them from fully experiencing the city. The race is scheduled for Sunday, November 19th, at 6am UK time.

Managing the Workload

Albon believes that the current number of races is manageable but highlights the need for compromises to ease the workload. He explained that the demanding travel schedule and time zone adjustments take a toll on everyone involved, including the teams and drivers. He emphasized the importance of finding a balance to ensure the well-being of all stakeholders.
