Felipe Massa’s Legal Team Hopes Lewis Hamilton Will Support Bid to Strip 2008 F1 Title

Massa Wants to Claim 2008 F1 Title

Felipe Massa, the former F1 driving star, is making a legal challenge to strip Lewis Hamilton of his 2008 F1 title. Massa lost by just one point to Hamilton in the standings that year, and now he wants the crown for himself after the controversial "Crashgate" incident at the Singapore GP.

Crashgate and Controversy

The Singapore GP in 2008 featured a deliberate crash by Nelson Piquet Jr. to help his teammate Fernando Alonso. The resulting race delay saw Massa go from first place to 13th. Massa believes that the race should have been cancelled, and F1 chiefs missed the deadline to respond to his legal bid last week.

Hope for Hamilton's Support

Massa's lawyer, Bernardo Viana, is hopeful that Lewis Hamilton will support their challenge, even if it means losing one of his own titles. Viana points out that Hamilton is an honorary Brazilian citizen and well-liked by Brazilians. He believes that Hamilton, as an important ambassador for the sport and advocate for sporting integrity, may throw his weight behind Massa's bid.

More Evidence to Come

Viana also suggests that there is more evidence to come regarding F1's failure to cancel the 2008 Singapore GP. Their objective is to bring the trophy home, and Viana states that this is not about financial gain. They intend to take various measures to obtain information and statements that will shed light on everything that happened in 2008/2009.

Felipe Massa holds no personal grudge against Hamilton and his legal team's case is against the previous leadership at FOM and FIA for their actions in 2008/2009.
