‘He’s not Michael Schumacher’ – Lewis Hamilton’s struggles prove he’s not F1’s GOAT, according to his former engineer

LEWIS HAMILTON has been descried as missing the technical nous to be called the greatest of all time in Formula One.

The Brit is tied with Michael Schumacher on seven drivers championships, after Hamilton was denied a record-breaking win by Max Verstappen last season.

Hamilton has struggled with the Mercedes this season

This year however, the 37-year-old has been way off the pace set by Red Bull and Ferrari, with the Mercedes car proving quite the challenge to it’s pair of drivers.

Hamilton and his supporters may be more concerned that he sits behind teammate George Russell in the drivers standings.

The former Williams man has finished above his highly-successful teammate in every race since the opener in Bahrain, leading to questions over Hamilton’s pedigree at the top of the sport.

Phillip Brandle, who worked with the seven-time champion for six years as an aerodynamicist, has highlighted why he may not be the strongest contender for the highly sought-after ‘GOAT’ tag.

He said to Speedweek: “Lewis needs to have confidence in the car, which is very important to him.

“He’s not like [Michael] Schumacher and doesn’t have the technical background. But he can feel the car particularly well.”

Schumacher won his first WDC in 1994, winning back to back titles with constructor Benetton.

The German then moved to Ferrari, where he went on to win five consecutive titles, dominating the early 2000s.

While both drivers competed for Mercedes, the pair never teamed, with the constructor now eight-time consecutive constructors champions.

Hamilton will be looking to kickstart his season as the 2022 campaign continues to Azerbaijan on the 12th of June.
