LEWIS HAMILTON secured the 90th pole position of his career ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The British star, 35, is chasing a record-equalling eighth victory at the Hungaroring – levelling legend Michael Schumacher’s Magny Cours haul.

Hamilton and Bottas secured an all-Mercedes front row for Sunday

And Hamilton put himself in a great position to do just that with a TRACK RECORD lap to secure his spot at the front of the grid.

The Mercedes star posted an unbelievable time of 1:13.447, with Bottas second on 1:13.554.

Hamilton became the first-ever racer to hit the 90-poles milestone – with the second-most successful qualifier in history Schumacher, way back on 68.

Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez stunned the grid to take P3 and P4 for Sunday’s race.

Ferrari stars Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc completed the third row for Sunday’s race in fifth and sixth respectively – behind the Mercedes pair and Racing Point duo.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took seventh, ahead of McLaren pair Norris and Sainz.

Gasly took tenth after sitting out Q3.

Racing Point took the second row, with Stroll securing P3

Racing Point stars Perez and Stroll set the tone early, finishing first and second in Q1, respectively.

In the first session, Hamilton came in third, with Mercedes duo Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris in fourth and firth respectively.

F1 legend Kimi Raikkonen finished dead-last in his Alfa Romeo, nearly two seconds adrift of Perez.

Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Daniil Kvyat (Alpha Tauri), Romain Grosjean (Haas) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) were also eliminated.

And some huge names then fell in Q2, with Daniel Ricciardo and Renault team-mate Esteban Ocon both out.

Alexander Albon was left furious with his Red Bull team after he was caught in traffic, ending up 13th.

Williams duo George Russell (12th) and Nicholas Latifi (15th) also fell in Q2 as Hamilton and Bottas took finished first and second.

And the Mercedes duo ensured they shared the front row at the Hungaroring with a storming Q3.
