Inside most glamorous F1 race of season as Miami GP has cable cars over track and fake marina with luxury yachts

THE inaugural Miami Grand Prix will play host to one of the most glamorous Formula One races of the season.

This weekend’s race is going to be huge both from a sporting and commercial perspective.

The track also has cable cars

F1‘s owners Liberty Media, the teams and sponsors are all hoping to cash in on the rising popularity of the sport in the United States.

And to pay homage to the Sunshine State’s gorgeous blue costal waters and beaches, the track will feature fake marina and a gondola.

They’ve even craned a handful of super-yachts into place with sparkly blue tinfoil placed around their hulls to give it the Miami feel.

Bizarrely, the gondola that goes across the track has NO destination.

They’ve even got cable cars offering a sky-view of the track.

But to some, the aesthetics of the Miami GP is nothing more than toe-curling fakery.

And you could be hit with a double whammy of fakery when Las Vegas makes its way onto the F1 calendar from next season.

Enough of the scenery and more on the track.

Speeds of 192mph could be reached this weekend

Sunday’s race could see an overtake frenzy and the designers of the track, British-based Apex Circuit Design alongside F1, have been praised by drivers.

The track, which sits next to the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium, is incredibly fast with a number of high-speed sections that lead to sudden, long braking zones.

This, of course, presents plenty of overtaking options for drivers.

The narrow final sector of the Miami sector could also prove to be tricky.

On the track, Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas is “excited” by the prospect of getting some “fun racing”.

He said: “I am really excited about racing in Miami.

“I just spent some days in the US, visiting friends and cycling with my partner, and I’ve really enjoyed the atmosphere.

“I am sure the race in Florida will be an incredible show as America has got us used to.

“The track seems quite cool, with good overtaking opportunities and the potential for some fun racing.

“I think the layout designers did a good job on paper and hopefully this will be the case in reality when we hit the track.”

The street circuit has a number of straights, which so far in 2022, has favoured world champion Max Verstappen and Red Bull.

Speeds of 192mph could be reached.

However, championship leader Charles Leclerc and Ferrari will also fancy their chances, especially in the slower sectors of the track.
