Lewis Hamilton’s World Championship Hopes Dwindling as F1 Legend Questions His Hunger

F1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart has cast doubt on Lewis Hamilton's chances of winning another world championship, stating that the Mercedes star "no longer has the hunger." Hamilton, who recently signed a two-year extension worth £50million, last clinched the title in 2020. Stewart believes that Hamilton's lack of motivation, coupled with his team's declining performance, will likely prevent him from securing a record eighth championship.

The Fire Inside Hamilton Has Fizzled Out, Says Stewart

Sir Jackie Stewart, a Scottish F1 icon and three-time world champion, has expressed concerns about Lewis Hamilton's diminishing drive to compete at the highest level. Stewart believes that over the past decade, Hamilton has primarily faced little competition, with Mercedes dominating the field. This lack of formidable opponents, combined with a decrease in the power of his car, has resulted in serious obstacles for the seven-time world champion.

Verstappen's Dominance Leaves Hamilton Struggling

Max Verstappen's dominance with Red Bull has further diminished Hamilton's chances of reclaiming the world title. Verstappen is set to secure his third consecutive championship, leaving Hamilton trailing behind. The 84-year-old Stewart believes that without a significant improvement in car performance, Hamilton's hopes of surpassing Michael Schumacher's record of seven titles will remain slim.

Does Hamilton Need a Better Car to Succeed?

Sir Jackie Stewart emphasizes the pivotal role of Mercedes in Hamilton's pursuit of surpassing Schumacher's record. While Stewart does not entirely rule out the possibility of Hamilton achieving this feat, he remains doubtful. As rumors circulate about a potential move to Ferrari, Stewart believes Hamilton will stay loyal to Mercedes. However, without a more competitive car, Hamilton's chances of securing another title may be increasingly remote.

Hamilton's 2021 Season Struggles

So far this season, Hamilton has managed to secure four podium finishes in Australia, Spain, Canada, and Britain. However, the British driver is yet to win a Grand Prix this year, and his total of 164 points places him in fourth position, trailing behind Verstappen's impressive lead of 364 points.
