Max Verstappen Teases Future Career Switch to GT Cars

Speculation Arises Over Verstappen's Future

Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver and three-time world champion, has hinted at a potential career change once his current Formula 1 contract expires. The 26-year-old recently sealed his third consecutive world championship title during the Qatar GP sprint race, becoming the first driver to achieve this feat in the short-form format introduced in 2021. However, Verstappen sparked speculation earlier this year by suggesting that he may walk away from F1 when his contract ends in 2028.

Following in the Footsteps of an Idol

In a recent interview with Gazzetta Dello Sport, Verstappen expressed his admiration for MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and his desire to explore a similar career path. The Dutchman revealed that he is interested in racing with GT cars, a category that he finds appealing due to his team's involvement. Verstappen praised Rossi for his remarkable career in MotoGP and his ability to have fun while still striving for victory. He expressed his intention to seek a similar experience in the future.

GT Cars and What They Represent

GT cars are equipped with factory engines that undergo certain performance modifications, making them suitable for road cars. These vehicles are designed for high speed and long-distance driving, making them an exciting prospect for Verstappen.

Future Plans and Contract Duration

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also hinted that Verstappen may not continue racing deep into his thirties. Verstappen's current contract, which he signed in March, will expire when he is 31 years old. As the F1 drivers prepare for the United States GP, Verstappen currently leads his teammate Sergio Perez by 209 points in the championship standings.
