Max Verstappen Urges FIA to Make Rule Change After Lewis Hamilton’s Disqualification

Verstappen Calls for Change

Max Verstappen, Formula One driver, is calling on the FIA to make a change following the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the US Grand Prix. Both drivers were found to have run illegal floors and were subsequently disqualified.

Illegal Floors

Hamilton and Leclerc finished P2 and P6, respectively, before their disqualification. The skidblock, or planks, that run along the center of the car to protect it from scraping along the floor must meet certain thickness requirements. Hamilton's rear end skidblock failed to meet the minimum requirement by 0.05mm, resulting in his penalty.

Verstappen's Support

Verstappen believes that more cars should have been checked for illegal floors. He expressed his frustration with the Sprint format, which only allows for one practice session to get everything right. Verstappen emphasized that no one sets up their car to be illegal and that teams do not want to be in that position.

Random Checks

The FIA conducts random checks on cars to ensure compliance. Verstappen suggests that if one car is found to be illegal, then the other cars should also be checked. However, he acknowledges that it is impossible to check every car for every single part.

Verstappen's Security

Reports indicate that Verstappen has been assigned bodyguards during his time in Mexico City due to fans blaming him for Sergio Perez's struggles this season. Perez is Verstappen's Red Bull teammate.

Controversial Sprint Race Format

Verstappen is known to be against the Sprint race format. F1 bosses are considering new plans, including a reverse grid race, to add excitement to race weekends. However, Hamilton and retired F1 champion Sebastian Vettel have expressed criticism of such ideas in the past.

Since the US GP, Hamilton has celebrated his dog Roscoe's birthday and announced a new career move with a non-alcoholic spirit called Almave.
