Max Verstappen’s Race Engineer Reveals Biggest Fear in F1

Gianpiero Lambiase admits concerns about future competition

Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen's race engineer at Red Bull since 2016, has opened up about his biggest fear in Formula One. While Verstappen has been dominating the F1 season with 17 wins, Lambiase is uneasy about how the Dutch driver will treat him when facing increased competition. Speaking on the Talking Bull podcast, Lambiase jokingly expressed his concern, prompting laughter from Verstappen himself.

Verstappen not bored of winning

Verstappen, who has a great working relationship with Lambiase, explained that winning motivates him and he doesn't get bored of it. He sees it as the best feeling and it drives him to come back to the factory every day to prepare for the next races. With eight years together, the pair has developed a strong bond and Verstappen even threatened to quit the sport if Lambiase left F1.

Time apart to stay fresh

Despite spending a lot of time together around the track, Verstappen and Lambiase also make sure to have time apart in order to stay fresh. Lambiase mentioned that it would be unfair to expect Verstappen to spend even more time with him, or vice versa, when they both have weekends off. Verstappen shared that he goes to the UK for simulator work but is always happy to return home and spend time with close friends and family.

Hamilton's struggles and upcoming races

While Verstappen continues to dominate, his 2021 title rival Lewis Hamilton has been facing difficulties. Hamilton recently revealed that he has given up alcohol in an effort to regain his race-winning form. However, with the struggles of the Mercedes W14 car, it might be a while before he sees success. Additionally, the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix is not expected to be favorable for Mercedes due to their slow straight-line speed.

Conclusion: Verstappen and Lambiase's successful partnership

Verstappen and Lambiase have been a successful team for eight years, with Lambiase overseeing all of Verstappen's 52 career wins. Despite the pressure and potential challenges ahead, their strong working relationship and time spent together have contributed to their success. As the F1 season continues, fans will be watching to see how Verstappen and Lambiase navigate future competition and maintain their winning streak.
